An oil change drains the old engine oil, replaces the filter, and refills with the grade and amount your engine calls for — conventional, synthetic blend, or full synthetic. We also top off your washer fluid and check the other fluids, and while the car's up on the lift we glance at the tires, brakes, and anything obviously leaking.
Oil is what keeps the metal inside your engine from grinding itself apart. As it ages it gets dirty and stops protecting the way it should, and a clogged filter makes it worse. Staying on top of oil changes is the single cheapest thing you can do to keep an engine alive to high mileage — skipping them is how people end up replacing engines.
Most cars want an oil change every 3,000–5,000 miles on conventional oil or 5,000–7,500 on full synthetic — check your owner's manual. Come in sooner if your oil-life light is on, the oil on the dipstick is black and gritty, or you're heading out on a long trip.
